This EDTV (Enhanced Definition TV) set is capable of displaying not only television signals in 480p (480-pixel progressive) but also from video sources such as progressive-scan DVD players (using the component video inputs). It displays video at 852 x 480 pixels, and while it can connection to HD-compatible cable/satellite set-top boxes, it will only display those HD input signals at its 480p native resolution. It has a high 1500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) Toshiba's PixelPure AT (Adaptive Technology) includes Motion Adaptive De-Interlacing, Adaptive MPEG Processing, Adaptive Contrast Enhancement, and Adaptive Color Enhancement--all critical elements to deliver a consistently high quality picture.
